Zandra Polard 0:43
Good morning, Las Vegas. It's Sandra Pollard. It's where I am, right here on 91.5 jazz and more. Today we have some fun fellas in the room in studio. We have my son, Roman Anderson.
Roman Anderson 1:05
What's up? Y'all cheers.
Zandra Polard 1:10
And one of his best friends came beyond and new found friend, Tayshaun. Now tell us how you guys all met?
Roman Anderson 1:22
I'll go ahead and start off. First off, Tasha isn't a new found friend. He's been a long time friend. Yes, I've known him for about I said,
Zandra Polard 1:28
one of your best friends. We said, newfound No. Tayshaun is new found. He's not new found. He's someone I've been but you met today in person. Okay?
Roman Anderson 1:40
So do I know? No. Okay, so he's new, but you probably heard him screaming in the background my computer. All right, tell me about your friends. So first off, Tayshaun, I've known him about six years. We met online. Oh yeah, we've known each other for a while. So we met online about six years ago, maybe even longer, I don't know, but first they started off playing together, and then eventually we just started talking all the time. Became good friends a little bit after that. So the friendship lasts while, and then I have cave young over here as someone who's been my friend probably since middle school. Yeah, Middle School. I'm 21 so I've known him for about half my life. Okay, so we met. He was, he was, I don't know if the correct term is transfer student, but he was new to the school. He transferred the middle school year, and I don't know what happened. I think it was because we both didn't have partners for a project, so we ended up just pairing together, and then we just became good friends a little bit after that, and the friendship lasted for Well, it's the last thing, but it we've known each other for a while.
Zandra Polard 2:56
Well, Roman is finally leaving the nest, y'all. So this is my 21 year old son that I mentioned from time to time that sleeps on my couch, yes, and he is moving on and spreading those wings to Georgia, yeah. So what does that feel like? Are you a little scared?
Roman Anderson 3:27
So I leave tomorrow, and I wouldn't necessarily say I'm scared, but I am a little nervous. I wouldn't say scared as and I'm frightened like, you know, okay, oh, this is gonna be scary. I'm gonna do this and this and but I am a little tense because I've really only been outside of any other state for about two weeks before I just come back home. So being there for an extended period of time, or expecting to be there for extended period of time, is a little, you know, nerve wracking, but I
Zandra Polard 4:01
don't know, what do you feel like? Maybe you can never come home or
Roman Anderson 4:05
never come home because you can't come back for a while. Well, I don't really want
Zandra Polard 4:10
Don't call me in two weeks and say, Baba, can I come home? No. Will be the answer. You know, I want you to get out there. I know you've heard see back in my day, we were anxious to leave the house. I left at 17 years old, and I was happy, ready, excited to be in the world. But things are different nowadays, like even your friend, Tayshaun. You guys have known each other from
Teyshaun 4:41
sophomore year. What is it called sophomore in high school? Yeah,
Zandra Polard 4:44
but for through video games, yeah, yeah. So you're meeting friends nowadays through video games instead of face to face. And so, you know, I've noticed that this generation is a little more complacent. You. About being at home and spreading those wings and, you know, leaving the nest. Now, Tayshaun, you are a little bit different because you're not at home, you're here away from Hawaii, and you actually attend you and Elvie, yes, yeah. So, I mean, what do you think about not being home? You're far away? Yeah, it's definitely
Teyshaun 5:25
tough. You know, I miss out on a lot of parties, and especially my siblings birthdays that I missed, like last week, and they're all just partying, and they're on through face time and stuff. And, you know, it's definitely like heartbreaking. I can't be there when they're when they're growing up, and it's definitely tough,
Zandra Polard 5:41
yeah, but you know, now we have technology, we have face time, yeah, so it's kind of like you're there, and what about you came beyond. You're still in the home, but you told me earlier today you're on the lower level of the house, right? So you got a little room, you're not quite in the living room, on the couch, you have some space. So does that make you feel like, more comfortable?
Kayvon 6:09
I mean, I feel like I've been comfortable, but I like, have this mindset of I don't know what I want to do. It's just I'm comfortable in the spot to walk and grind, to be able to move out and have things set in order, okay,
Zandra Polard 6:21
yeah, but we also talked about things like toiletries, right? Who here buys their own toiletries? So shampoo, I'm not raising my hand, yeah, I know you're not, yeah, because you have those conveniences of home, right? So you share with me that you do get your own toiletries, but
Kayvon 6:46
what time to time take mom stuff? You know, act like and take it. But,
Zandra Polard 6:53
yeah, yeah, it's convenient. Yeah. So these are some of the things I'm looking forward to you becoming more independent with Yeah, so you guys are on the radio first timers. Is there anything that you want to say? Give a shout out
Kayvon 7:11
to anyone. Y'all want to shout out everybody here today? I like, this is my first time here. Um, I've always wanted to get experience like this. And, um, so far, it's been great, no knowing you for so long. Yeah, and meeting all of them for the first
Zandra Polard 7:27
time. Yeah, in the audio engineering, the people in the sound room, yeah. What about you? Taysha,
Teyshaun 7:34
I'll say thank you to you. Foremost, I just met you today and seemed really kind and for having me on the show for the first time, and thank you to all the engineers back there as well, too. And yeah, shout
Roman Anderson 7:45
out to squash I like your mom.
Zandra Polard 7:49
What about you, Roman, who
Roman Anderson 7:51
I want to shout out. Shout out, Julius. That's my little brother, Julius Lawson. Shout out my older brother Donovan Anderson. Shout out my older sister Raylene Anderson, shout out my cousin who I'm going to be moving with in Georgia, Donna Pollard, and I think that'll be all. And shout out to my mother for allowing me to be on the radio show.
Zandra Polard 8:14
Oh, it's wonderful to have you here. And you know, I kid and I joke and I joke and I joke about you leaving, but I too am a little nervous about you leaving. It's going to be difficult for me as well. Please don't think that it's not, but I know that it's necessary. As a parent, it's necessary to see your kids move on to the next step in life. And for those who are listening and struggling with young adults still in the home, I would say, find a support group. You know, talk with your friends, see what they're going through, because it's not always something negative. You know, when you have your loved ones all together, and you have those parties, right, and you have chores or whatever that needs to be done, and you're doing it together, that connectedness is something that we all can value, right? So it's not always a bad thing.
Roman Anderson 9:31
I mean, I say the good thing, and I don't gotta do chores no more. I'm leaving tomorrow your
Zandra Polard 9:35
own chores, right? All right. I mean, are you gonna just throw stuff around in your room like you do at home, or you're going to keep your space clean. You're still going to be living with someone.
Roman Anderson 9:47
Yeah, I didn't realize that maybe I should start doing stuff like that.
Zandra Polard 9:52
Yeah, make sure you clean those corners. Get in the corners, get those baseboards, all those things, yeah. And then what about cook?
Roman Anderson 10:02
Eating? Are you asking me what I think of Yeah, how cooking would be like, yeah. Are you
Zandra Polard 10:06
going to make your own meals? Are you looking forward to eating out a lot? Are you concerned about your health in terms of eating? I've never really
Roman Anderson 10:15
been concerned about my health so you eat a lot of fast food. Yeah, it's
Zandra Polard 10:20
true, you know how to cook, but you prefer to eat fast food, and that's just a part of being young, I think. But when you're out there on your own, I'm hoping that you'll do more cooking for yourself. Take your vitamins. Yeah,
Roman Anderson 10:36
you can maybe see a couple vitamin pills thrown in there, yeah, take
Zandra Polard 10:40
your vitamins. Make sure you're you know, getting those physical exams every year, getting those health checks, well checks, dentistry, vision, those things are important. You learn those at home. Mom sets up the appointments when you're young, but when you become an adult, you are responsible to take care of your body.
Roman Anderson 11:09
Yeah, yeah. I've learned that the hard way. I miss going to appointments and I feel like I'm looking away every day now. Yeah,
Zandra Polard 11:15
yeah. There are more to come. More to come. Okay, so we've talked about you leaving home. We know you're gonna fly, fly, fly, fly, spread those wings. Let's get into some other stuff. Okay, got three young men here. Let's talk about, we know how you met. You met in school, you met online. What are some of the fun things you guys do, aside from video games, that's a hard one in it,
Roman Anderson 11:47
that's a little bit of a hard one when it comes to cave. Young, the one that I've met in person, he's more of like a friend you see in person, like you hang out with and it's just fun, like, I don't know, just really social. Like, how would I say you
Kayvon 12:05
are social? And it's crazy, because I'm very socially awkward, but I'm around people I'm comfortable with known for a long time. Then it's like, it's like, natural, because
Zandra Polard 12:14
I told my husband, I said, Okay, beyond that's how you were doing. Like, no one does that, you know, just
Kayvon 12:19
that mystery respect. Yeah, I'm real big on like, parents too. So okay, yeah. And
Zandra Polard 12:24
you have a big family, oh yeah, you're the oldest, yeah, okay. And then you have how many
Kayvon 12:28
siblings, three brothers and two sisters, yeah,
Zandra Polard 12:33
okay, go ahead. Go on. I just wanted to ask
Roman Anderson 12:36
them, Can you repeat the question?
Zandra Polard 12:40
What else do you do aside from playing video games?
Roman Anderson 12:47
I feel like, with someone like Telly who or Tayshaun, I'm gonna call him, keep calling him, and tell the accident.
Zandra Polard 12:54
What is that like? His handle on the video game? Yeah, that's his nickname, and I'm totally taking it back because you said, you said, Tayshaun is coming. I said, Tayshaun. And then he comes in the studio. And I'm like, Who is this Hawaiian kid sitting across from me? Filipino, Filipino, yeah, okay.
Roman Anderson 13:15
I feel like, what someone like, tell you, you don't have to be playing the game just to have fun. Like, usually it's just socializing, having fun, or, I guess you could say jokes if you want to call them that, okay? And, yeah, that's really all we do. We just hang out like it's kind of just like, you know that one person you call on the phone and it's kind of just fun to talk to, or just happy to hear from, or just hear whatever they're doing just brings a smile to your face or makes you laugh.
Zandra Polard 13:41
That's cool. Do you guys ever get like deep? Do you ever talk about like girls or heartaches somebody gave on, I heard you got heartbroken a good old time.
Kayvon 13:53
Crazy. No, yes, even Roman, don't he is he deflecting? He has to. Okay, Roman, he he he not safe,
Zandra Polard 14:02
okay? But, um,
Kayvon 14:05
yeah, I feel like everybody does. Though it's just, well,
Zandra Polard 14:08
I'm not a boy, so I don't know, or a man. I mean,
Kayvon 14:13
no, I mean just getting over. I mean, honestly though, I feel like it just really who you encounter and who you are willing to want to trust and get to know, and who you give information to, basically being vulnerable, I guess, yeah. But with us being young, I mean,
Zandra Polard 14:33
you get over it pretty Yeah, and
Roman Anderson 14:35
yeah. So if we talk about girls, I thought that's what he was talking about. I mean, I don't do a lot of talking when it comes to girls, you know. But, you know, tell he does, you know, that's his thing. He's real big on girls. Yeah, little bit of a lover boy over here, right
Zandra Polard 14:53
here, at UNLV. So let's talk about some future plans. Tayshaun, what are you going to school at UNLV for? I. I'm going to school for finance. Nice. What made you choose finance?
Roman Anderson 15:02
Well, in high school, I actually did engineering, but then I found out like it wasn't really for me because of the math, mostly, even though finance involves math, but more complicated math, but and then my mom actually inspired me to go into finance, because she had her own photo booth business back home with my dad, and they would go to parties and stuff. So it's basically their own business. And that inspired me to go into business. And I did more research on what I wanted to do, whether it was accounting or finance, and I just decided to go with
Zandra Polard 15:35
finance, okay, and this is your third year. Oh, yes, my third year. Nice. So one more to go. Yes, and what about you? KB, huh,
Kayvon 15:45
definitely stay more on the blue collar route. I know, when I first finished high school and got out, I took training to be like a CNA, but I was happy. I tried it. But I know it's not for everybody, because when you demonstrate and have to change people, it's like a different environment, yeah, to try to have, like, my mindset and stomach for so,
Zandra Polard 16:09
so you realize you had to change some diapers and, yeah, deal with bodily fluids, yeah? And you were like, I can't do it, yeah? But, I mean, I'm happy I got the experience for sure. Yeah, yeah, you got to try. You wouldn't know unless you tried it. I think that's
Kayvon 16:23
the great thing about getting older, just trying more stuff, till you figure out, like, Okay, I keep doing this, it'll just get better and better.
Zandra Polard 16:30
Yeah, I know I tried a lot of things. Yeah. What about you, Roman, before
Roman Anderson 16:36
we start me, did that experience that you had? Kevin, did that inspire you to have children, dealing with them all the time. I don't even have children. I'm saying inspire you to want to have children.
Kayvon 16:45
I mean, I want to say that specifically, because I looked at that more towards of like, helping people, like, take care of people who can't really take care of themselves. Yeah. But I think the children part would just come on the person I meet and choose to really settle down. I haven't having kids on like 30.
Zandra Polard 17:05
Yeah, that's playing over here. Yeah, no rush. You have kids. Good. All right, so what about you? What are your What are you thinking you may want to do? So
Roman Anderson 17:14
like we mentioned before, I'm moving, and a big motivator for that was, I finally would have the space to, you know, do what I really want to do, just like YouTube, which I'm pretty sure every single kid is mentioning right now. They're like, I want to be YouTube. I want to want to be like, kissing now and streaming, and that's kind of the big thing now. It's like, instead of like, how you are on a radio show, more the younger generation now is more like online, and that's more like the media personality, like you have talk show hosts like Wendy Williams and all that. But now the new generation is looking more towards YouTube like that. Like, if you were to ask your child, or ask your kids like, you know, like, Who do you watch? Like, for, you know, entertainment or whatever, like yours would probably be, and your generation would be Oprah, like a stand up comedian or something like that. This route that I want to take with just like YouTube and all that, it's more like the same thing, but it's just all over the internet instead of, you know, on TV and all that. So that was a big motivator for me. Moving that's probably the biggest motivator, because it's probably one of, I know these two might know now, when I've been uploading stuff and it hasn't really been seen, or it's been seen by a couple people, and I don't know, it made me really happy, and I don't know it was just a big motivator for me moving to Georgia. And, I mean, it's kind of hard to record. You know, if I'm in my mom's house, I'm yelling in the background, huh? Or yelling at me.
Zandra Polard 18:50
Well, you know, I have to give a special shout out to you,
Roman Anderson 18:57
me as in Roman,
Zandra Polard 18:58

Roman Anderson 19:29
